JAXA Virtual Planet

Terms of Use

JAXA Virtual Planet (VP) is a system for viewing data from the lunar spacecraft Kaguya via a web browser and analyzing it with a Geographic Information System (GIS). Designed for both researchers and the general public, VP offers a Basic version for viewing and an Advanced version for research and analysis.

Terms of Use

1) General Usage
Use of this system’s data must comply with ISAS's Data Policy and JAXA’s Intellectual Property Policy. Users are deemed to have agreed to these rules upon using the system. Users must not infringe on third-party rights, must obtain permission when necessary, and recognize that JAXA trademarks/logos are protected intellectual properties.


2) Data Usage
If the data is publicly available through DARTS, usage must follow ISAS's Data Policy.

Credit Attribution
When using downloaded data, please include a credit such as (c)JAXA/JLPEDA. This credit is automatically embedded when using the system’s print function.

For Academic Use
If you publish papers using numerical or level-2 data* from the Kaguya (SELENE) mission, clearly state that JAXA-developed data was used. Also specify the instrument name and data type. Please note that JAXA is not liable for research using promotional materials (e.g., text, images).

* Level-2 data is defined as the observational data from "Kaguya" that has undergone calibration and includes header information and catalog files.

For Result Utilization
Free use is allowed for academic, educational, or personal purposes as long as the above policies are observed. Redistribution over networks is prohibited. For commercial use, formal procedures with JAXA are required.


3) Disclaimer and Commercial Use
JAXA and JLPEDA bear no responsibility for any damages resulting from use of this system. Users assume full responsibility.
Commercial use requires prior consultation and formal procedures with JAXA. Unauthorized commercial use is prohibited.
